Getting to know someone is a beautiful process (GBE-R #7)
I'm tired this morning. I'm a little annoyed with myself for missing last week's entry. I have to work tonight and I'm going to try to take a little nap. But, before I do, here is a long-ish list of random facts about me. Now, while I nap, you all can get to know me better!
About me:
- Today is my birthday. I am newly 48 years old.
- My husband and I have been on our journey together for 23 years.
- We have four children. They are 26, 22, 20, and 17.
- We have a 7-year-old husky/lab mix named Jasper. He is my fifth child.
- We also have and 8-year-old cat named Ruby.
- I went to school and became an LPN when I was 36.
- My journey to RN came to a halt when my youngest son was diagnosed with Leukemia three years ago.
- My plan is to return to school next fall--we'll see what happens.
- I currently work in a nursing home on the rehab unit. I work night shift.
- I am a certified make-up artist. Other than a few clients in the past, I really only do my own make-up.
- I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2021.
- I am incredibly introverted.
Things I love to do:
- Read. Mysteries are my favorite, but I'm generally down to read most anything. Sci-fi is one genre that doesn't interest me much.
- Cook. I LOVE cooking for my family! I really enjoy using my instant pot. I also really like making soups and stews. I also enjoy figuring out diabetic friendly ways to make my favorite foods.
- TV. I'm not into movies at all. Unless, of course, you break the movie into 13-23 pieces that are roughly 20-40 minutes long. Then, I'll sit there and watch that "movie" all day! Asking my favorite TV show is like asking me to pick a favorite child!
- Makeup. Covid and my son's illness put this one on hold for a while. For a long time, it felt like a pointless thing to do. I've been slowly getting back into it and remembering all the things I used to love about it.
- Diamond painting. I honestly didn't think I'd like this as much as I do. I thought it would feel tedious and annoying. It's actually a very relaxing activity for me.
- Gardening. I've been throwing seeds in containers and seeing what happens for a while now. I'm probably doing everything wrong, but I have fun doing it.
Foods I love:
- Tacos (zero carb tortillas for the win!)
- Toast. I don't eat toast anymore since my diabetes diagnosis. It is too triggering for me.
- Oatmeal raisin cookies (which I also do not eat)
- Avocados
- Sushi
- Indian food
- Soup
- Seafood
- Brussels sprouts
- Reuben sandwiches
- Coffee
- Diet Cherry Pepsi
Foods I hate:
- Watermelon. Any melons. All melons.
- Calamari/Oysters. I love seafood. I think it's a texture thing with these two.
- Oreos
- Okra
- Orange salad dressings--unless it's on a Reuben
- Corned beef--unless it's on a Reuben. It's weird, I know.
- Acorn and butternut squash
Random things that bring me joy:
- Thunderstorms
- Betty White
- Glitter
- Snoopy and the Peanuts gang
- Hello Kitty
- The Rocky Horror Picture Show
- Fall
- Sitting on the couch and using Jasper as a pillow.
- Nipper (the RCA dog)
Silly facts about me:
- I started a pineapple plant in January of 2022. He is my "emotional support plant." I call him Piney. He's gotten quite big but has yet to produce any fruit. Of all my gardening endeavors, he is my favorite.
- I have very big feet. I wear a 13 in women and 11.5 in men.
- I can't resist a baseball tee. I could live most of my life in a baseball tee and jeans.
- I stopped using permanent hair color in 2019. In October of 2020, I cut all the remaining dye out of my hair, and I haven't cut my hair since.
- I collect glass ball paperweights.
- I also collect coffee gadgets. I don't always use them, but I love to have them.
- In 11th grade, I came in second place in a speech competition...out of two people!
- I used to bake bread. A local deli once wanted to use my bread, but we couldn't make it cost effective for either of us.
- I didn't start drinking coffee until I was 27 years old.
- I might be nurse, but I hate wearing scrubs. I live for casual Friday!
- I'm thrilled that Crocs are having their moment. I love them. Not only are they super comfortable, but they are also very size inclusive, and I can get pretty "girl" colors in larger sizes.
I found myself nodding all through this. So many "sames."
ReplyDeleteSo much fun getting to know you ! While we are so different, we also have many of these things in common. I feel that is true of most people. i’m going to post mine today.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you, Stephanie! We have a few things in common, such as the texture of food being a deterrent, thunderstorms, and Betty White. Overall, you put together such a great snapshot of who you are, I think you're awesome!!
